Fr. Gary Lazzeroni - Priest Administrator

360.696.4407

Father Gary Lazzeroni was born in 1957, the third of four children born to Frank and Edith Lazzeroni. Fr. Gary was baptized at St. Anthony (now Holy Spirit) Church in Kent on January 26, 1957. Later in 1957, his family moved to California.

He grew up in Santa Clara, California, and was a member of St. Justin Parish. Fr. Gary attended public schools while participating for twelve years in Catholic Faith Formation at St. Justin. He was very active in his parish as a young adult. While Fr. Gary was studying at Santa Clara University, he was hired as the first Youth Minister at St. Justin. He graduated from Santa Clara in 1979 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies.

After graduation, Fr. Gary began discernment around priesthood and entered St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, California, in the fall of 1980. During his time at St. Patrick, Fr. Gary discerned that the Lord was calling him to ministry in the Church as a lay person. He transferred to the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley in 1983, and earned a Master’s Degree in Systematic Theology in 1985.

Over the next twenty years Fr. Gary worked in parish ministry and as a high school religion teacher in the Archdioceses of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. In June of 1993, he joined the staff at St. Luke Parish in Shoreline as a pastoral associate with responsibility for liturgy, funeral planning and outreach ministries.

In February of 2002, Fr. Gary joined the staff of Archbishop Brunett, first as the Director of Justice and Peace Ministry for the Archdiocese, and then as Chief of Staff in the Vicar for Clergy’s Office. During this time Fr. Gary discerned a call to priesthood, and was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Fr. Gary attended Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin, and graduated in May of 2007 with a Master of Divinity Degree. Fr. Gary was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Alex J. Brunett on June 9, 2007.

Before his assignment to St. Joseph, Fr. Gary served as Parochial Vicar at St. Michael Parish in Olympia.

His older brother, Frank, and his younger sister, Edie, live in Northern California, along with many nephews and nieces. His older sister, Mary, is deceased (1992) as are Fr. Gary’s father (1996) and mother (1998).

Fr. Gary enjoys playing golf, reading, going to movies, and the theater. He is also an avid sports fan, and enjoys watching golf, baseball, football and basketball.
