Happy St. Nicholas Day!
St. Nick isn’t the only one who wants your shoes!  Beginning January 3, 2012, St. Joseph will host a Nike ReUse a Shoe drive.  Our goal is to collect over 500 pairs of worn out sneakers to donate to this program.  Nike will take the whole tennis shoe and literally break it down into renewable surface material.  You may donate any brand of athletic shoe, but we cannot recycle shoes with metal parts, mud, cleats, dress shoes, sandals or flip flops.  Bring your shoes to the gym starting January 3 and we will box them up and ship them out to the Nike recycling facility to be sorted and processed into three types of raw material: rubber from the outsole, foam from the midsole and fabric fibers from the upper. Make your New Year’s resolution to help the environment and clean up your closets.  Save those sneakers from the landfill and bring them to us!  You can find more information and videos on the process of recycling the shoes at www.nikereuseashoe.com or Facebook.com/nikereuseashoe
