Eucharistic Ministers Outreach

These ministers bring the Eucharist to Catholics in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and to the homebound.

What gifts or abilities are needed?
Those who participate in this way offer the gifts of time and compassion. They must also have the ability to be accepting of the differences of others. Because they are entrusted with the Holy Eucharist, they must be good Catholic role models, be baptized and confirmed, possess a spiritual maturity and have a reverence and devotion for the Eucharist.

Is training required?
Training is provided for those interested in participating in this ministry, after which they will be commissioned. Also, a background check is required for all who serve in this ministry.

How much time is required and what is the term of commitment?
Ministers of the Eucharist bring Communion on a regular schedule depending on the facility. Mornings of Reflection are offered in the Fall and in the Spring.

What are the spiritual or personal rewards of participation in these ministries?
Many ministers to the sick, the home bound and the elderly, experience an increased spiritual awareness and appreciation for the gift of life. They feel privileged to be able to experience the faith of others and are rewarded with the gratitude they receive from those they visit, finding joy in bringing joy to others.
